Heather Glover Hoang is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker & owner of Neon Tetra Media LLC, established in 2024 after 12 years of creative production experience. She offers production & post-production services with a focus on character-driven & historical documentary and branded video. Her work has been featured on VICE Media, Refinery29, and MTV. Her clients include organizations such as the Foster Care Film & Community Engagement Project & Global Refuge. Her favorite thing about her job is going to places she’s never been and meeting people she wouldn’t otherwise meet, ranging from FBI negotiators to small business owners in the Midwest.
Also known as her given name, Thu-Huong, Heather studied Film & Media at UC Irvine, 20 minutes from her hometown of Garden Grove, California. She grew up in a Vietnamese American community also known as Little Saigon. Her parents were writers and creatives who shaped the first Vietnamese-language media company in the US after the Vietnam War. Her parents met at a newspaper organization before her father became the head writer at Little Saigon Radio, a local station in which she has fond memories of visiting. Coming from a family of storytellers, it was only natural she became a filmmaker.
She’s been living in Brooklyn, NY since 2013. She currently resides in Greenpoint with her husband, Brian, and their cat and dog duo, Max & Mango.
When she’s not filmmaking, she enjoys sci-fi novels, especially those written by women, like Octavia E. Butler and Becky Chambers. She and her husband enjoy hiking & camping at national parks, where you’ll easily find her shooting with her Fuji TX-10. While she loves forests and oceans, the desert speaks to her soul like no other place.
